1-inch Dubia roaches make excellent primary feeders for some of the most widely kept exotic animals. These include medium to large bearded dragons, chameleons, geckos, tarantulas, and more. They’re also a good fit for young animals of larger species, such as tegu and monitors.

At about three months old, 1-inch Dubia roaches are nearing adulthood. But they’re not quite there yet. They’ve grown a lot since they were tiny newborn Minis, but they’re still soft-bodied nymphs with tender shells.

Having soft bodies means easy digestibility. Better digestibility means more nutrition per ounce and per roach. Chitin forms the fibrous, indigestible outer shell that protects most insects; Dubia roaches are relatively low in chitin. Low chitin translates to high nutrient density and more nutrition per ounce than other feeder insects. Nice!

Dubia roaches also store protein and other essential nutrients for future use, which further enhances their nutrient density. This is partly why they are such popular feeders. Most reptiles and other insectivores need and want a high-protein feeder insect, and Dubia roaches provide that.

Their high nutrient content may explain why some animals eat fewer Dubia roaches than other insects. Animals generally love Dubia roaches and will eat them aggressively. However, they often become full faster. Many people chalk this up to high nutrient density, and we tend to agree.

We feed our 1-inch nymphs only healthy foods. These include whole fruits, vegetables, and our in-house roach chow. We provide all our Dubia roaches with the nutrition they need at each stage of development, which results in superior feeders and healthy, prolific breeders.

In conclusion, 1-inch Dubia roaches are excellent all-around feeders. They are extremely nutritious and surprisingly delicious, and most animals love them. Their size is suitable for medium to large bearded dragons, chameleons, and other similarly sized animals.
