In-depth information
¾-inch Dubia roaches are the preferred feeder insect for many insectivores. This size is a good fit for many popular reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids, which makes it one of our most popular sizes.
Generally, there are two requisites for feeding Dubia roaches: They should be size-appropriate, and your animal(s) should benefit from their exceptional nutrition. And what animal wouldn’t?
Besides being super nutritious, ¾-inch Dubia roaches are great for animals that like action from their feeder insect. They have outgrown the shy nymph stage and are more active and outgoing than smaller roaches. For this reason, they often trigger a strong feeding response in insectivores.
And they’re faster and stronger, too, which makes feeding animals that like action a little easier and more fun.
At around two months old, ¾-inch Dubia roaches have reached nymph middle age, and they’re starting to resemble older nymphs. Their color is changing, they’re halfway to their final pre-adult size, and their behavior is becoming more mature. However, they still have the traits that make them excellent feeders for growing animals.
One trait is digestibility. While all Dubia roaches have less chitin than most other feeder insects, their shells grow thicker with age. But this hasn’t happened yet with ¾-inchers. They’re still soft-bodied, which means they undergo thorough digestion and provide better nutrition per ounce. And this is what most young, active, fast-growing animals need.
At this point, it’s probably redundant to say Dubia roaches are widely considered the most nutritious feeder insect. If you didn’t know, you do now. And as it turns out, food is a package deal. You have to take the bad along with the good. The story of Dubia roaches is that they contain more of the good stuff animals need for health and less of the bad stuff they don’t.
Wrapping it up: ¾-inch Dubia roaches are excellent all-around feeders. Their nutrition profile is second to none, and they have all the right moves to trigger even the most discerning animal’s feeding response.
Item specific sizing notes
- With ¾-inchers, some size variation is normal.
- Roaches are bigger or smaller depending on hydration and feeding status. If needed, you can alter their size by feeding or withholding food.
- Provide them with food and water or gut load them before feeding to reach their full, plump size. Or, you can withhold food and water for a few days to reduce their size.

Arrived on time, and all alive! These are great feeders for my fire skinks, tree frogs, and crested geckos.

These are the best feeder insects I’ve received as long as I can remember in both physical stores or online sites that mail them. I don’t believe any of the roaches were passed away when the package got to me which is a big change from anywhere I’ve gotten feeder insects. Leo my bearded dragon seems to be positively responding to the roaches and seems to have more energy and is hungry less often.

I’ve been getting a recurring order every 2 weeks for about a year now. On my first order I also got a batch of roach food that I use along with fresh veggies to feed them. My beardie has gotten healthier and stronger since I began using roaches instead of crickets. He’s more active, alert, and loves to jump and play. These are also easier to use as feeders because they don’t jump out of the cage or bowl. I resisted this initially because I was uncomfortable having “roaches” in my house but these aren’t the same as what infests homes. The shipping is very consistent and using USPS alerts I can get texts when my delivery arrives minimizing the time of weather exposure. When I need to travel or make a temporary tweak to my delivery flow they are very helpful. I recommend this company and this product.
